I was asked to find out if anybody knows of riding opportunities at the "Land between the Lakes" property? This group that I ride with sometimes from Missiouri is looking to ride there this coming April if they can find a place to stay and perhaps even someone to show them around.
I told them that surely someone on here is familiar with it... Thanks! _________________ '07 HONDA RINCON (Trail Ready)

It's an OK place to ride but it's definately not in the same class as east TN. The main reason is that it's not nearly as big. You can ride every trail there in two or three days. On the positive side there usually is plenty of mud, some of the trails follow the shore of KY lake. LBL has several campgrounds within a few minutes of there. They also have a very nice lodge available for those who don't camp. By the way, tell them that the rules are usually strictly enforced. Give them this link and it will answer most of their questions:

I've been to LBL once and wasn't really impressed. They are very strict on their rules. No riding after dark. We were getting back at dusk and they were about to have a fit and it wasn't even dark yet.
Tell them to drive a few more hours to Coal Creek, Brimstone or Royal Blue and they will have a lot better trip. _________________ Go Vols!!! Roll the Tide!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks! These are a good group of riders and they have been lots of places. I met them at the Rock 4 yrs ago and have been riding with them when ever they are out this way at least twice a yr ever since. We've done Coal Creek, Brimstone, Evarts together and have always had a great time.
By what you are describing, they probably won't like LBL near as much, (They're not really mudders either) and if that's the strongest suite LBL has to offer and a bunch of strict rules to go with it,... well enuf said.
Thanks again, I will send this link to them tho, it's up to them to decide for themselves. _________________ '07 HONDA RINCON (Trail Ready)

Hey chat...
I grew up across the lake from that area. The OHV park may be 3500 acres. They claim to have 100 miles of trails on a ~2.25x2.25 mile plot. The elevation change from lake level to the top of the highest hill is only about 150 feet.
I've never seen it, but I know what the riding is like there... you won't be impressed... _________________ Dan

I have been there too...went back around 2001 before I had ever been to WR....havent been back since. I totally agree with everything they said rules, trails, etc. Takes me about the same amount of time to get to either place and I seem to always choose to go north and east. I usually abide by rules and figure they are there for a reason...but I was afraid to even pop my gum they were so strict there. _________________ Scars are like tattoos but with better stories
Chatdc I know olegriz use to ride there alot. I've never been there myself. Have they been to Pickett? There is two good days of riding there. Also some great techincal riding there. Yea, I was going to mention Pickett. It should be included in the Top 5 List of places to ride in East Tennessee. _________________ 2008 Suzuki KingQuad 750; Kimpex Deluxe Rear Box; 25' Big Horn Tires on ITP SS112 Wheels; Garmin 76Csx Mapping GPSr w/Ram Mount; Viper 2500lb Winch; Coop Mod #3, EPI Yellow Spring; Lighten Roller Weights; NYROC Grease Zerk Mod; NYROC Castor Mod; YFZ450 Shocks; Shift Gate Mod

Phil I have ridden there a lot in the past. I liked it. There are 2000 acres with multiple crossing trails. You could see it all in 2 days. At winter pool a neat trail appears right on the lake. I haven't been in three years, so my imformation is dated. As of four or five years ago they started closing at times of groung saturation. Then we would go to Linton to ride, which is Corp property and close by. Talk about mud. That was closed for an inordinant amount of trash being dropped by riders. To ensure LBL not being closed use the "Call before you haul Phone #. Should be on that web page, it is 270-924-2000. It could be a good 2 day ride. You can boon dock right in riding area for a small fee. Because of injures and deaths they do enforce speed limits in common areas and on gravel roads. Motels are avaible in Cadiz Ky. Have fun.

That is the exact 1/2 way point between my friends from Illinois and I. We plan on going there sometime this summer (who wants to come). Each time I go to the web site it says the park is currently closed. I am going just to say I have rode it, my goal is to ride as many different places and trails as possible. And I am pretty freekin sure that I have met the right people to do that... thanx.
But what I have to share is a place in Southeast Missouri (SEMO) call St. Joe State park. Thy have about 3500 ac. there but they have sand as well. The sand is kinda like a area like the size caryville flatts but sand. (is there any dunes around here... i would be alot more brave on the jumps) The rest is timber that surrounds the sand... still was easy to get lost bc trails were unmarked and criss crossed... no map avalible but may be different now. There is ALOT MORE wildlife out there bc outside of the small forest is corn and soybean.
The woods riding can be challenging... the hills may not be big but the terrain can be kinda rocky at times and the hills climbs (off the main trail) are very steep ((40 ft climb out of a soggy bottom creek up to the bottom of the tank)... this is the kind of stuff i learned on.)). Flipped many times out there and bloody'd up the face a bit. My buddys ride there frequently and they say St. Joe is a hair on the chest compared to our spots. But it is alot of fun, I like the sand alot (where my 250r used to shine beating everything under the sun) , some dunes but very few. You also have to flag your atv, which is a joke they break way to easy, for most of the day mine would drag. Good place to spend a weekend. I believe it is only $3 a day to ride and $8 to camp (i wish we had fees like that) I havent found a campground for under $20 in E. TN (I know there is alot of free backcountry camping, but for 20 may as well get a hotel).
SEMO has many nice spring fed rivers that offer some excellent canoe trips, several day trips within a few miles. Not class V or any thing (go to my other home...WV for that) but many cliff jumping oppertunities, trout fishing, caves, history, and winerys. _________________ 2006 Brute Force 750

I rode LBL 3 times way back before I ever discovered Windrock. Haven't returned since. The rules are strictly enforced. Must have helmets, no riding double, and the last time we were there, there was a NO MUDDING rule. We pulled in with our snorkels and were pretty much frowned on from the get go. They told us we didn't them up there because they didn't allow mudding and if they caught us, we would be told to leave. The funny thing was, I really believe they were seriously watching us. There always seemed to be a warden around us whenever we would stop for just a water break. So we just never made the trip back. You might wanna look into riding at Loretta Lynn's up off of I-40. I've heard its a pretty good place to ride, thinking of heading up that way this summer myself. OR, you can hit west TN, around Covington Pike Bottoms. All kinds of riding there and around Memphis. You can basically ride through Memphis along the banks of one of the Hatchie Rivers. You'll go under bridges, interstates, and see stuff you wouldn't believe. Believe me, its unreal. But I wouldn't recommend going without a pretty knowledgable guide. You can find one on the highlifter forums. It's fun riding though. Pretty sure there are no rules and it doesn't cost anything. _________________ 2009 Yamaha Rhino 700 Camo, 27" Swamplites on 14" Black ITP wheels.

Thanks guys! This has really turned out to be quite informative. Somehow that Memphis trip sounds interesting to me?? I have never liked Memphis at all before but maybe on a fourwheeler it will be different? I'm not saying that I'm ready to go ride there yet but maybe... _________________ '07 HONDA RINCON (Trail Ready)

You know Chatdc I've got a freind who lives there. I wonder if its where they ride. He says it's fun and there is alot of riding. Says that the hillclimbs there are just not as tall and long as the Rock. _________________ HONDA 05 400EX, FMF POWERBOMB HEADER,TITANIUM 4 SILENCER.PRO TAPER HANDLEBARS, MODQUAD CLAMP,DG A-ARM GUARDS,AC RACING BELLY PAN,QUADBOSS SWING ARM GUARD,RAZRS 2 22 IN.
